Month of Meitheal 2025
Multiple dates and times
The Common Knowledge Centre, V95DK38
Description
The Month of Meitheal is back for 2025, and we’d love for you to join us for up to 5 days of volunteering this spring! Stay in our guesthouse, roll up your sleeves, and help us prepare The Common Knowledge Centre for another exciting year ahead.
Register for the Month of Meitheal
Last year, over 200 volunteers came together to bring energy and creativity to our 50-acre site during the Month of Meitheal. This year, we’re building on that momentum by offering smaller, focused sessions. Groups of about 10 people will spend 4-5 days with us during set dates in February and March, making it a more personal and collaborative experience.
Arrive on Sunday evening or Monday morning and stay until Thursday evening or Friday morning on one of the following dates*:
• Feb 16 - 21
• Feb 23 - 28
• March 2 - 7
In exchange for your time, you’ll enjoy good food, great company, skill-sharing, and cosy accommodation—all while welcoming the arrival of spring at the Centre.
*If your desired date is not available to join us, please add yourself to the waitlist and we will notify you if someone can't make it.
What will we be working on?
We’re rolling up our sleeves to tackle these key projects:
• Renovations & Building: Painting exteriors, remodeling the reception area, upgrading the Volunteer Den kitchen, making and installing lodge curtains, and progressing the rubble patio.
• Eco-Restoration & Gardens: Trail maintenance (chipping and stonework), fixing fencing for the chicken area, and reviving our gardens and grounds.
Accommodation
We are happy to be in a position to offer you cost-free simple accommodation for your stay with us on a first come, first served basis. Please note, we are only in a position to have people over 18 years old on site. As we will be starting early each day, accommodation is provided from the night before we start work, with arrival from 5pm.
We ask that you only sign up if you are definitely planning to attend, as otherwise we’ll be keeping a room for you and it won’t be used.
Daily Routine
Although there will be time to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of The Common Knowledge Centre we do require volunteers to take part in the daily routine and also to help out on all tasks including cooking and clearing up after the group.
08.30 Breakfast
09.00 Daily Briefing
09.30-12.30 Morning Work Period
12.30 Lunch (Vegetarian)
14.00-17.00 Afternoon Work Period
Meals and Dietary Information
We’ll provide wholesome breakfasts and vegetarian lunches during your stay to keep you energised for the day’s activities. Please note that while we aim to create a welcoming environment, our chefs won’t be on-site during the Month of Meitheal.
If you have specific dietary restrictions or requirements, we kindly ask that you bring along any additional food items to meet your needs. Our communal kitchen will be available for you to prepare and store them.
Volunteer Guidelines
As a Centre that prioritises the safety and comfort of all our guests the following guidelines for volunteers serve as a means to encourage a harmonious and inclusive space for all to enjoy.
Respecting Each Other - Please make a commitment to treat everyone on site with respect and not engage in any behaviour that is harmful to others through action or speech. Any form of discrimination or bullying will not be tolerated and the managers of the centre reserve the right to ask any guest to leave. We ask guests to keep noise to a minimum after 10 pm.
Respecting the Environment - Please respect the beautiful natural surroundings of the Common Knowledge Centre and the Burren including all of its flora and fauna. Please use eco-friendly products for cleaning and personal hygiene during your stay and take care to not leave any impact or trace on the surrounding environment.
Respecting Our Shared Spaces - Please make a commitment to keep shared spaces such as the dining and living area clean and tidy and to participate in shared tasks such as washing dishes and cleaning toilets. Please adopt a ‘leave no trace’ policy, leaving your accommodation in good condition and ready for the next volunteer to use.
Conserving Resources - We wish to create a model of a sustainable future and as such make the commitment to be mindful of our use of resources, such as water and electricity, and try to conserve them whenever possible.
Being Flexible and Proactive - The Common Knowledge Centre is a brand new environment for our organisation and many of the systems and procedures are still being designed. Please make the commitment to be flexible and open to new experiences.
Creating a Safe and Healthy Environment - In order to create a safe and healthy environment for all volunteers, staff members, and visitors, we are creating a drug-free space and ask everyone to refrain from bringing drugs of any type onsite.
What to bring (and not to bring)
Unfortunately, we are not able to supply bedding or towels for volunteers during this period. Please bring warm clothes, a sleeping bag/duvet, pillow case and single bed sheet. Please also note, pets cannot be accommodated at this time.
Being in Community
We are so grateful for your help. We hope that the structure of the day will allow for plenty of time to relax and enjoy the space as well as to connect with each other and learn as a community.
ALL ARE WELCOME!
Whether you’re coming solo or with friends, we promise a warm welcome and a fulfilling experience. Last year’s volunteers came from all walks of life, and many left with new friendships and lasting memories.
With love,
Team CK
