What it is
A practical day outdoors focused on the core techniques of dry stone wall repair and building. Designed for community groups who want skills they can apply locally with volunteer effort and modest tools.
What you will do on the day
- Orientation, safety, tools, and reading the wall
- Selecting stone, moving it safely, and setting foundations
- Building technique
- Repairing a collapsed section and finishing a stable top
- Wrap-up: how to plan a small repair project
What you will leave with
- Confidence to assess a wall and choose an achievable repair section
- A clear understanding of the basic “rules” that make a wall stable
- A simple checklist for organising a volunteer walling day
What to bring Sturdy boots, warm layers, waterproofs, work gloves if you have them, and an extra layer for outdoors.
Included Expert tuition, all tools and materials, lunch and refreshments.
Transport We encourage carpooling, please arrange with your group or let us know if you will be using public transport to Kilfenora or Lisdoonvarna, and we will support you with the transfer to the centre.
